Naughty Dog transitioning current engine to the PS4

In a interview with Digital Spy, Bruce Straley, Naughty Dog's game director, confirmed that the current engine on the Naughty Dog's PS3 title, The Last of Us is going to be carried on to the PS4.

"We scrapped everything at the beginning of Uncharted 1, and we had a perfectly good engine with the Jak & Daxter franchise," "We could have started with something there and then built off of it and only changed the pieces and parts as we needed, when we needed. And that really caused a lot of turmoil."

Coming out of the engine in Jak and Dexter Naughty Dog wanted to a create a new engine for the next generation of games. When the PS3 was first released Naughty Dog created a new engine specifically for the Uncharted series, it proved difficult because they didn't know much off of this new hardware. Now Naughty Dog is carrying over it's existing current engine to the next gen.
